About the case
Over the course of a year, I organised and conducted a series of design challenges for a group of 6-8 designers, which significantly contributed to their professional skills and career advancement. Two participants, Denis K. and Sergey G., notably improved the quality of their work, which was highly appreciated by their respective design leads.
The issue
I wanted to find some junior designers to make them stronger.
The solution
- Organisation and Preparation:
- Determining the format and tasks for the design challenges.
- Developing assignments, such as app redesigns, to allow participants to showcase their skills and creativity.
- Coordinating schedules with participants for regular meetings.
- Conducting the Challenges:
- Providing participants with assignments and setting deadlines (1-2 weeks) for completion.
- Organising meetings to discuss and evaluate the works.
- Facilitating discussions where participants commented on each other's work.
- Feedback and Recommendations:
- Providing detailed feedback to each participant.
- Highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of their work.
- Offering recommendations for improving design and visual presentation skills
The result
My initiative to organise and conduct design challenges proved highly effective in developing the professional skills of the participants. As a result of this project, several designers significantly improved their craft, leading to career advancements and recognition of their achievements.
- Professional Growth of Participants:
- Denis K.: Was a junior designer before participating in the challenges. Due to a significant improvement in the quality of his work, he was hired as a senior designer in another company.
- Sergey G.: Substantially improved his design and visual presentation skills, which was noted by his design lead.
- Recognition Among Colleagues:
- The design leads of both participants acknowledged the significant growth in their professional skills and work quality.
